One size US women's letter

Calling all vintage 1940s kimono lovers! You need this special, spectacularly beautiful piece in your wardrobe.

Based on thorough research, believe that this vintage Japanese Taisho Kimono is from the Showa era, which lasted from 1926-1989.

Due primarily to the sleeve length and the materials used, we feel the most comfortable dating it between the late 1930s and the early 1940s. (Kimono sleeves in the 1940s tended to be shorter, as did the lengths of the gowns themselves.)

The early Showa Period is known for borrowing heavily from the art Deco/Nouveau influences of the time period, which the print of this piece clearly references.

What's especially unique about this particular piece is that, unlike many of the brighter colors and more "in your face" kimono designs of the period, this vintage kimono has a softer color pallet of light blush pink and cream.

The design, consistent throughout the piece, shows an oval-shaped flower surrounded by curved lines.

As is customary of the times, this kimono does not have any kind of closure. However, it's quite easy to wear with a belt borrowed from a robe if desired.

It is understated, elegant, timeless, and -- as you've likely already realized -- rare. It certainly reminds us of some of our favorite Old Hollywood stars. Great for indoor or outdoor wear.

The fabric is a rayon and/or silk, and feels just like butter on. It also has a bit of a sheen to it.

Though not traditionally a Japanese wedding kimono, we think that this is the perfect "getting ready outfit" for a vintage bride to have her makeup (and sip on copious mimosas) in. Of course, it works just as well for your wedding night!

CONDITION:

This vintage silk kimono is in excellent vintage condition, with no major flaws to note.

The only imperfection we noticed was a pinhead-sized red dot near the shoulder, as is clearly indicated in the photos.

Please remember that this piece is delicate, so we do advise wearing with care and storing safely in a garment bag.
